Hi, I'm Donna.
And I've been exactly where you are.
Back in 2016 I packed up and travelled, ending up living in New Zealand. That time away changed something in me. I came back with a drive to build something of my own and a lot of questions about how to actually do it.
I'd been working in marketing since 2018, so I understood the digital world. But understanding marketing and building your own income from scratch are two very different things. I had to figure most of it out myself.
THE JOURNEY
From VA work to building something of my own
For years I worked as a Virtual Assistant for a wide range of clients. It was flexible, it paid well, and it taught me a huge amount about how online businesses actually run. But by last year I knew I needed something more. Trading time for money had its limits and I wanted to build income that could grow without me having to take on more and more clients.
So I started exploring. I tried Skillshare, Etsy, digital products, and online courses. Some things worked. Some didn't. I made mistakes, wasted time on the wrong platforms, and had to work out what actually suited my situation as someone based in the UK.
What I kept finding was that most of the advice out there was built for an American audience. The platforms, the tax rules, the way buyers behave online. It just didn't translate cleanly. So I started documenting what I was learning and sharing the UK specific version of it.
That's how Assistup by Donna started. Not as a polished business plan, but as an honest record of what I was figuring out along the way.
