Building With Digital Products

Ready to create and sell digital products?

Here is how to do it in the UK.

Etsy, Amazon KDP, your own store. Digital products are one of the most reliable ways to build income that works around your life. This page will show you exactly where to start.

Woman Working Thoughtfully

Why digital products work so well

  • Create once, sell repeatedly with no stock and no shipping

  • Low startup cost. You can begin with tools you already have

  • Platforms like Etsy and Amazon KDP bring built in buyers so you do not need a big audience

  • Works in the UK. No awkward currency conversions or US only platforms

  • Income that keeps coming in whether you are working or not

Three routes to selling digital products in the UK

1.

Route 1: Etsy

Etsy has millions of active buyers and is one of the easiest places to list and sell digital products like templates, planners, printables, and guides. Low fees, built in traffic, and a huge UK seller community.

2.

Route 2: Amazon KDP

Kindle Direct Publishing lets you create and sell low content books like journals, planners, and workbooks on Amazon. Once published, Amazon handles everything. Genuinely passive income once your listings are live.

3.

Route 3: Your Own Store

Selling directly through your own website gives you full control over pricing, branding, and customer relationships. Higher margins and no platform fees. Works brilliantly alongside Etsy or KDP.

Recommended tools

The tools below are ones I use regularly or recommend based on what works well in the UK market.

For designing your products

Canva  FREE

The easiest way to design templates, workbooks, planners, and printables. The free version is more than enough to start.

Adobe Express  PAID

A good alternative to Canva with strong mockup features. Useful for creating product preview images that look professional on Etsy.

For selling on Etsy

Erank  PAID

A straightforward website builder that works well for beginners. No coding needed and it connects easily to your store and email list.

Placeit  PAID

Creates professional product mockup images for your Etsy listings. Makes digital products look tangible and appealing to buyers.

For publishing on KDP

Canva  FREE

Works well for designing low content book interiors and covers for KDP. Many sellers use nothing else.

Book Bolt  PAID

A KDP focused tool for designing interiors and researching niches. Has a free plan and a paid tier with more features.

For selling directly

Payhip  FREE

Low cost and straightforward for selling digital downloads directly to buyers. Handles delivery, VAT, and payments automatically.

Mailerlite  FREE

For building your email list and staying in touch with buyers. A warm email list is the most reliable way to drive repeat sales.

Mistakes that slow down digital product sellers in the UK

Most of these are easy to fix once you know about them.

Using vague listing titles

Titles like Budget Planner or Recipe Journal do not get found. Buyers search for specifics: weekly budget planner printable UK or family meal planner editable template. Your title needs to match how real people search, not how you would describe your product to a friend.

I made most of these myself. Sharing them here so you don't have to.

What kinds of digital products sell best?

Templates, planners, workbooks, printables, and guides consistently perform well on Etsy. On KDP, low content books like journals, habit trackers, and activity books sell reliably. The key is finding a niche with demand and not too much competition rather than chasing what is currently trendy.
